What is Wellness?.   Quite simply, it's making healthy (or
healthier) decisions to help all areas of a person to be healthy.....
See graphic below

People's decision making and thus, behaviors, can be influenced by
peers, culture, religion, family, media, and a host of other things.
Generally speaking,  Overall Health Education is to promote
decision making skills that can be applied in every other area of
Health for healthier decisions

WELLNESS NOTES:

Definitions:

HEALTH = Being Free from disease, generally just speaking about physical needs

WELLNESS = Being Healthy in all areas (physically, mentally, etc...see below)

PISES =

P = Physical = Body = what you see, feel.  Your body, body systems, etc.

I = Intellectual = Mind = Thoughts, Opinions, acts of Thinking, Intelligence,
Knowledge

S= Social = Group interactions= how one gets along in various group situations

E= Emotional = expressions of feelings, self concept, personality, coping ability

S=  Spiritual = Values, Morals, Beliefs of what's right and wrong in different situations

* All areas can overlap and be effected by another area....For instance:
if someone is emotionally not healthy, then they may see physical symptoms such as
sweating, upset stomach, headaches, trembling, lack of sleep, etc.  There is nothing
physically wrong with their body but the emotional problem causes physical
problems.

It is not enough to be healthy, one needs to try to obtain wellness.

Take this
survey about PISES to see how you rank and what needs improvement.
This will help you with one of your reflection questions

INFLUENCES

Defined = Where someone learns how to act.......It has a whole lot more details to that
but it can be easily summarized by placing into 2 categories:
1) = media or things
2) = people and environment  or people and place

Download a comprehensive but not totally inclusive list provided by previous class
possible influences in a person's life
